FAQ
Scuba diving is a mode of underwater diving where the diver uses a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba gear) which is completely independent of surface supply to breathe underwater. This is an exciting sport and will give you new experiences in an unfamiliar environment – the underwater. Therefore, in order to somewhat create comfort as well as provide you with an overview about this sport, we have compiled the 10 most frequently asked questions coming from novice divers or those who have never dived before.
Safety is our top priority. Delight Diving is one of 8 dive centers in Vietnam certified by SSI. Our experienced instructors always adhere to strict safety procedures and all equipment is regularly inspected. Emergency procedures are thoroughly covered and DiveAssure is covered during training.
The Open Water Diver course at Delight Diving is structured into 3 comprehensive sessions to ensure a thorough and effective learning experience:
- The academic session: involves the provision of training materials in English sourced from SSI's website. Our experienced instructors combine theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations, facilitating quick comprehension. Upon completion of the academic segment, participants undergo a final exam comprising 50 multiple-choice questions to assess their understanding.
- The confined water session: conducted in a pool environment, serves as the initial practical step. Here, participants practice using diving equipment, familiarize themselves with breathing underwater using regulators, and acquire fundamental skills in a calm and shallow water setting. This phase is designed to instill confidence and build a strong foundation for underwater activities.
- The Open Water session: is the culmination of the course, featuring a total of 4 ocean dives. In this real-world environment, participants continue their learning journey by mastering remaining skills, practicing underwater movement, and refining buoyancy control. These dives offer a genuine experience of recreational diving, providing a sense of accomplishment as participants transition into certified and confident recreational divers.

It's always best not to dive with a cold or any condition that may block the sinus air passages. It depends on how severe your sinus problems are. If the symptoms are mild, you can contact us for further advice. If your symptoms are more serious, we recommend you to consult your doctor before deciding to dive.
Most people who ask this question have had the experience of swimming to the bottom of the deep end of a pool and experiencing the accompanying ear discomfort. This earache is due to a pressure imbalance between the middle ear canal and the pressure of the water outside it. Dealing with this imbalance is something you are taught to prevent in any diving course.
Getting the proper balance and avoiding ear discomfort due to varying pressure levels isn’t hard, and normally this is accomplished through equalizing your ears frequently during decent or by using an exercise called the Valsalva maneuver. Once you’ve learned the proper way to do it, this should rarely be an issue for you while you dive.
Depending on your training level, the depth to which you are allowed to dive will be determined.
- For the SSI Open Water Diver certification, you can dive to a maximum depth of 18m.
- With the SSI Advanced Adventurer certification, you have the flexibility to dive up to 30m.
- If you have a preference for greater depths, you can obtain the Deep Diving Specialty certification, allowing you to dive to a maximum depth of 40m. It's important to note that 40m is the recreational diver depth limit.
Scuba certifications from SSI have an indefinite duration, meaning they don't expire. However, in case you have not been diving for too long (over 6-8 months), you can take a Refresher course to review your knowledge and regain your confidence underwater.
